South Surrey Youth Football League

Supporting grassroots youth football

Our Ethos

We value football as a wonderful game from which young people can obtain huge enjoyment whilst developing their physical fitness, skills, and values such as fair play and sportsmanship, their friendships, their sense of worth both as individuals and as members of a team and their sense of awareness and pride in their achievements.

We provide youth football within a safe and positive framework of healthy competition that supports the continual growth and development of young player's skills and abilities, and the highest standards of sportsmanship within the game.

We promote an atmosphere of positive support and encouragement for all players and work to eliminate any practices that are contrary to good sportsmanship or giving precedence to adult ambition over the individual or wider interests of the players.

We listen to and work collaboratively with our clubs and teams, we also ask our members to work co-operatively and respect each other so together we can jointly create a competition that meets the needs of young players and the high expectations of everyone involved.

Our History

The SSYFL was formed in 2010, with the aim of providing youth football clubs and their players in South Surrey and neighbouring areas with a competitive league environment that operates in the very best interests of every player.

We aim to be at the forefront of the movement towards a more progressive playing environment. This was reflected in the provision from the outset of 9v9 football before it was widely implemented and continues every season through flexible and innovative competitions to maintain interest and meet the different and evolving needs of our member clubs and their players.

We have achieved significant growth, especially over the last 8 seasons when we have more than trebled our number of member clubs and increased the number of teams competing in our league fourfold. In 2022/23, our 13th anniversary, we had 48 member clubs entering 320 teams with over 4300 boys and girls playing mixed mini-soccer, 9v9, and 11v11 football across age groups under 7 to under 18. In 2022/23 we also launched a Girls section for age groups U8 to U12 playing development matches.

In April 2022 we held our 8th Presentation Day Tournament, at Brockham Big Field. This is a hugely successful, free to enter event we hold annually for our member clubs and teams that has tournament football on the day as well as our regular season awards. We also hold age group cup competitions and host cup final days at local grassroots grounds and larger stadiums. See our gallery of past events (on the external site DE Photo).

Equality

We provide inclusive mixed football competitions for young players of all abilities, and welcome volunteers from all backgrounds to become involved in our league.
